The Healthy Start program is a comprehensive maternal and infant health care program. The primary objectives of the Healthy Start initiative are to reduce infant mortality and morbidity, improve pregnancy outcomes, and enhance the health and development of pregnant women at an increased level of intensity and duration, based on each individual’s ability to establish and maintain behaviors which are conducive to optimum health and well-being. Families are linked to a medical provider and other family support services they may need during their participation in Healthy Start. Services may be provided for up to one year after the birth of the baby and at three years depending on the needs of the family.
