Service Description

Provides a weekly group where participants become problem-solvers for themselves and the community. Requires diligent work and motivation. It covers the "hidden rules" of the economic classes, stages of change for participants, community and personal resources, research on the causes of poverty, self-assessments to help with planning, looking ahead to the future, goal setting, etc. Workbook and group materials are provided; dinner at each group; childcare (if needed); gas cards and bus passes; other incentives each week; and a graduation bonus.

Eligibility

Broward County residents must have stable housing (individuals living in a shelter, treatment facility, or moving from house to house are ineligible). Income must be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. They will be accepting participants with incomes above the 200% poverty level on a limited basis. Must be willing to commit to attending at least 13 of the 15-week group cycle and willing to complete an intake and assessment before participating.
