Service Description
Provides Broward County residents with a reliable, locally recognized form of identification accepted by community partners such as law enforcement, county agencies, healthcare facilities, schools, cultural centers. and non-profit organizations. ID participants can pick up their children safely from school, de-escalate encounters with law enforcement, obtain a library card and more. Additionally, the ID participants would be able to obtain access to the COVID-19 vaccine and shelter for their families during a hurricane, storm, or other emergency. Legal Aid Service of Broward County is encouraging homeless individuals, the elderly, those recently incarcerated and returning to the community, new immigrants and refugees to apply for the ID. Participants will be required to submit proper documentation and undergo an educational presentation which covers the proper use and parameters of the ID.
Eligibility
Resident of Broward County, incarcerated persons, foster youth, transgender persons, the homeless, new immigrants, refugees, or anyone who might face difficulties obtaining a state-issued ID. Immigration status will not be asked.
Application Instructions
Participants must bring one of the following: passport of their country (current or expired); driver license or ID card (current or expired); foreign national ID card; consular or embassy ID; Military ID card; and proof that he/she is a Broward Resident, which can be any one of the following, provided that it is not older than 6 months: utility bill, rental agreement, bank statement, medical bill, credit card bill, or any document proving residency.
