Service Description

NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE - Provides affordable mortgages and workshops to empower families to become successful homeowners. Habitat homeowners commit 50 hours of sweat equity by helping build another Habitat homeowner’s house and 200 hours constructing their own home with volunteers.

Eligibility

Must be a US citizen, must not own a home, demonstrate the need for adequate shelter, debt/income ratio must be below 43%, have no bankruptcy fillings within the past seven years, have the ability to pay modest monthly mortgage payments and be consistently employed for the past year or receiving a stable source of monthly income, must be willing to permit Alachua Habitat to run credit, criminal, and sexual offender background check and able to give 100 hours of community service, 100 hours to help build other Habitat homes, and work every Saturday (200 hours) on your own house, for a total of 400 sweat equity hours.

Application Instructions

Potential homeowners can call the Family Services Department to begin the application process and to attend the next Home Ownership Orientation (HOO). It is required that all parties on the housing application attend a Home Owner Orientation (HOO). Visit the website for details.
