Service Description
Conducts reviews of existing beneficiaries under the federal programs, determines continuing eligibility and helps make decisions about the medical eligibility of Florida military and veterans and citizens applying for disability benefits under the federal Social Security and Supplemental Security Income programs and the state Medically Needy program.

Application Instructions
Applications for Social Security disability benefits are filed at the claimant's local Social Security Administration (SSA) field office or online. Applications for benefits under the Medically Needy program are made at a local office of the Department of Children and Families. For both programs, the application is forwarded to the Division of Disability Determinations to determine medical eligibility. The claim is returned to the Social Security Administration or the Department of Children and Families to determine technical (non-medical) eligibility and effectuation of any benefits due to the claimant.
