Service Description

Provides to all petitioners seeking restraining orders instruction on the law and assistance in preparing petitions for temporary injunctions against domestic and repeat violence. When appropriate, staff attorneys assist petitioners with further proceedings, including referral to the State Attorney's Office for initiation of assault or stalking charges or to DCF (Department of Children and Families Services) for alleged child abuse. Also provides information regarding dissolution, paternity, child support, and custody issues.

Eligibility

Petitioners who are seeking restraining orders for temporary injunctions against domestic and repeat violence.

Application Instructions

To obtain the restraining order, petitioners must arrive at the Broward County Courthouse, Domestic Violence Division, Room 248, before 4:30 PM to ensure the paperwork is completed the same day. The courthouse opens at 8:30 AM. Call for details.
